Stefano Lanza - for my Jem Fans!

https://www.facebook.com/stefano.lanza.376

Stefano Lanza, an artist from Genoa just friended me on FaceBook. No I had never heard of him but his work blew me away- it was fresh and fun and beautifully drawn.

He uses ancient historical imagery in an inventive way. The clothing on his figures is beautifully understood and rendered- not guessed at- he spent a lot if time working on these. His figures are always elegant and playful.

I don't know more about him than that- but I thought you would enjoy his work.

Stefano replied to a request about what his inspirations are- he is self- taught- what talent!
However, he lives in Italy where he is surrounded on all sides by great art.

I have not done any school of art, I've always drawn since I was a child. I really love ancient art, Renaissance, Baroque, etc. ...
I started as a young man studying anatomy and drapery through the ancient art and sculptures, and through anatomy books and if possible also from the truth.
Since I'm young I love the sculptures, and I practiced with the drawing and looking at the sculptures of Michelangelo, Bernini and Francesco Mochi, Antonio Canova, and others.
I live near the Monumental Cemetery of Staglieno an extraordinary place inside there are sculptures by Giulio Monteverde, Vittorio Lavezzari, Giuseppe Navone, Giuseppe Benetti, Augusto Rivalta and many others, I practiced and studied looking at these artists, I often go to visit works of these artists.
I have not done any school I tried to learn from the artists that I like, painter, sculptors, illustrators, etc. ..

Stefano,

You are enormously talented and inventive. Have you ever thought of painting?

There are some fine ateliers in Italy-one is
http://www.charlescecilstudios.com/
Where you could go full time or part time.

The reason I am saying this as the classical realists are so boring- with some solid painting instruction you could do some really magnificent and fun work- I mean it-

I wouldn't want you to do boring work like that- but it is like learning the scales in music.

You could really shake up that world- it needs it! I would love to see what you do in paint.

I would love to see you work in paint- I loved doing Jem- but I love painting more.

I know that this is none of my business.

By the way- could I put what you wrote about yourself on my blog?

Your English is much better than my Italian!

Thanks for the link!
I have never dedicated to realistic painting on canvas, I tried a few times with acrylics but just for fun. I'd love to, but for many circumstances I have always done drawings and illustration on paper. If in the future I try to do a painting I'd be happy to show it to her, but I do not have much experience with oil paints, acrylics, etc. ..
I used Ecoline and colored pencils on paper, but they are years that those with digital.

I do not know if I understand the question, but if you want to use what I wrote in your blog is good for me.

I wanted to ask if I can share some of his works on my facebook and put the link of your site?

It is not true that the comments she has made in Italian on facebook was very clear!

I cheated- I used Google Italian- I know a few words, because I have bought Italian paint and paper ( Italians make the best paper). Also I studied Latin.

I would LOVE to see your work in paint.

email. knetart@yahoo.com any pics.

Do you sell your work or do you illustrate books or for advertising?
Thank-you for the information- I put it up.
