Painting, especially from life, and unlike photography compels you to look at something for a longer time, uncovering hidden layers beneath surface appearances.

Well I'll agree with you there Sharon. I suppose one of the readings of painting is that very time fluxed and fixed slow release that one gets from trying to work out how it happened. I had that very experience in front of a painting in the National Gallery, London, the last time I was there. Of course it doesn't always make for satisfying reading but when it does................

Of course one can also fake it; Time mag covers, Teflon Don.
